概要

The spouse visa allows the foreign spouse of a Japanese national or permanent resident to live in Japan. You can work without restrictions.

📋 取得条件

Requirements

  • Valid marriage certificate (officially recognized)
  • Proof of Japanese spouse's nationality or permanent residency
  • Proof of cohabitation or intent to cohabit
  • Financial documents showing ability to support the family
  • Certificate of Eligibility

If married abroad, have the marriage officially registered in Japan as well.

📝 手続き手順

Procedure

  1. Register the marriage in Japan at city hall
  2. Apply for COE at the immigration office (or the Japanese spouse can apply)
  3. Apply for visa at the Japanese embassy abroad (if outside Japan)
  4. Enter Japan and receive residence card
  5. Register address at city hall

Renewal: Apply before the current status expires. Long-term residents may qualify for permanent residency after 3 years.
